The Presentation Secondary School Yearbook comes out every Spring.
It is a large, professionally-published high-quality publication.
It's production is the result of a concentrated team effort by pupils
and teachers at the school. All aspects of student life are represented
in an entertaining and interesting magazine.
It functions
as a record of life in school in that year and also as a showcase
for the literary and artistic talent of the pupils. The front and
back covers are usually designed by a senior Art student. Many of
these budding artists have gone on to art college and are still proud
of their first published artistic work in the school yearbook. The
1986 cover was designed by DeLourdes McGrath who has gone on to a
career as a designer.
The yearbook
began life in 1983 as a joint venture by the two Presentation schools,
primary and secondary. It was published in this format for two years.
This was in the days when the two schools were linked by a corridor.
The magazine was abandoned for a few years and then revived again
in its present incarnation in 1986 .
Listowel is acknowledged
as the Irish home of creative writing. Poetry, short stories and reflective
essays published in the school magazine over the years, bear witness
to this. Plans are afoot for a "where are they now?" section in future
yearbooks in an effort to trace some of the early contributors and
committee members. If you are reading this and have any happy (or
otherwise!) memories of working on the Pres.yearbook the present committee
would love to hear from you.
